Even though Bristol Palin will be shaking her moneymaker all over the Dancing With the Stars stage this fall, she can't seem to stop talking about how she'll be wearing the "most modest outfits" on the show. Now, proving that the nut doesn't fall far from the tree, Bristol is following in the blood-soaked footsteps of her grisly mama, Sarah—who never met an animal she didn't want to kill (or so she would have us believe)—by insisting that the show's costumers cover her stretch marks with massive amounts of fur.

OK, Bristol—first of all, despite all your supposed concern for your modesty, everyone knows that when Levi said, "If you loved me, you would," you gave it up faster than your mama gave up the governorship. So, honey, that tacky cruise ship has sailed. And covering yourself with animal pelts is not only immodest, it's also obscene. Luckily, PETA has confirmed that no real fur will be used on Dancing With the Stars.

Know of any other folks who don't "get it" about fur? You might want to keep some of these handy.

There's great news from across the Atlantic, where the European Union has voted to ban the use of great apes in experiments. The new legislation also places significant restrictions on testing on other primates and requires that non-animal methods be used whenever possible.

This is an exciting development—but it also raises a question: In light of this humane advance, how can the U.S. government justify its plans to transfer more than 200 "retired" chimpanzees from a facility in New Mexico to a research laboratory in Texas, where they'll probably be forced to endure cruel experiments?

Two ailing dolphins who have been languishing in a filthy, cramped tank in Turkey are on the road to recovery after PETA Germany and the marvelous charity Born Free took action. And after The Sun—the U.K.'s best-selling newspaper—ran an exposé about Tom and Misha's plight, PETA Germany staffers posted an action alert, wrote to the mayor, and coordinated action with Turkish animal protection groups.

Our colleagues at Born Free are moving Tom and Misha to a rehabilitation center, and the dolphins will be released into their rightful ocean home as soon as they've recovered.

Let's call for the rehabilitation and release of more captive dolphins, such as the orcas (the largest members of the dolphin family) at SeaWorld.

Two ailing dolphins who have been languishing in a filthy, cramped tank in Turkey are on the road to recovery after PETA Germany and the marvelous charity Born Free took action. And after The Sun—the U.K.’s best-selling newspaper—ran an exposé about Tom and Misha’s plight, PETA Germany staffers posted an action alert, wrote to the mayor, and coordinated action with Turkish animal protection groups.

Our colleagues at Born Free are moving Tom and Misha to a rehabilitation center, and the dolphins will be released into their rightful ocean home as soon as they’ve recovered.

Let’s call for the rehabilitation and release of more captive dolphins, such as the orcas (the largest members of the dolphin family) at SeaWorld.

The biggest losers in Las Vegas are the animals who are used as entertainment props, such as the lions at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino—one of whom recently snapped and attacked a trainer. The event was caught on video. Just two years ago, another trainer was attacked by a lion in the display, and everyone remembers the attack involving Siegfried and Roy, who tried to disguise the incident by saying that the big cat was protecting the man who was dominating him—right, by grabbing him by the throat. These stressed, would-be-wild animals are ticking time bombs.

We have appealed to MGM management to do away with this old-fashioned display. Living in a casino and being forced into close contact with hoards of tourists is no life at all for wild animals. That's why we plan to erect this billboard in Gainesville, Florida:

The billboard's peasful arrangement of different religious symbols promotes tolerance and nonviolence regardless of race, faith, or species, a message that's pretty apt when people are fighting hammer and tongs over the burning of the Muslim holy book, the plans to build a Muslim community center near Ground Zero, and a recent arson at the site of a mosque under construction in Tennessee.

Just like humans who are victimized for being perceived as different, animals who are raised and killed for food would be left in peace if it weren't for human ignorance, prejudice, and bigotry. On factory farms, piglets are castrated and have their tails cut off without being given any painkillers, cows are often dismembered and skinned while they're still able to feel pain, and chickens and turkeys—who have never hurt anyone in their lives, but who feel pain just as humans do—have their throats cut while they're still conscious.

But there is something that everyone can do to reduce the total amount of violence in the world. We can choose meals that did not involve terror, disrespect, and killing. And though we can't bring back those we lost on that horrific day nine years ago, each of us can save more than 100 lives this year alone just by going vegetarian—or better yet, vegan.

As PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said in her talk on nonviolence in Palestine at Christmas a few years ago, "One day, people will stop saying 'Respect me, I'm a human being,' and say 'Respect me, I'm a living being.'"

I think that artistic people are so fantastic. But I'm even more impressed when people take their artistic talent and use it to spread a message—like "elephants never forget." Needless to say, I was bowled over when I saw this piece by Amy Grace in Hot Springs, Arkansas:

Really catches your eye, right? We were so taken with Amy's piece that we're sending her a Compassionate Action Award for spreading such an important message. Check out what Amy has to say:

What inspired you to create this piece?

When PETA sent out their mailing about circus elephants and I got to reading about what those animals go through. It's so painful for me to hear about any animal suffering, and what's happening to these poor elephants is unjust. What's more sad is that a lot of people don't even know what is happening, and so they pay their money to go to the circus, which only supports the injustice that is being done. I thought that with my photography and design combined, I could help to catch a little attention to bring some awareness to the issue.

Graphic design is a very powerful way to spread the message of Ringling's cruelty to animals. How have people reacted?

So far, people have been touched by the image, I think, and some even felt inclined to have more in-depth conversations about the issue of animal rights in general—while others, I think, swept it to the side as just another "activist stunt." If I can get through to just one person, though, then it's a job well done. Just one person can make a big difference.

Are you into any other animal rights issues?

I am concerned for all animals and their well-being—from the animals on factory farms, to those being tested for products, to those being skinned for fur, to those being beaten and abused in their own home. I may not be able to save all of them—but I do what I can to help, in the best way I can. For me, artistic expression is what I do best, and I think it is a powerful medium that when wielded right can really catch people's attention, open them up to compassion, and persuade them to make changes in their own small ways.

I totally agree. Leave a comment below with your favorite way to spread the animal rights message!
